Things to Do

Activities Across Both Villages

Four ways to explore that string several destinations together. Pick based on your stamina and interests, or combine a few into one trip.

Trekking

Pelaga and Belok/Sidan offer trekking trails across a range of difficulty levels, suited to beginners and experienced trekkers alike.

Village & farmland trail~1-2 hours
Follows village roads past coffee, citrus, and asparagus farms — the easiest of the three routes.
Nungnung & Tukad Bangkung Waterfalls~1.5-2 hours round trip
Hundreds of steps down to the waterfall — suited to those with decent stamina.
Mount Catur Summit & Pura Puncak Mangu~4-5 hours round trip
A climb through tropical rainforest to Bali's highest temple (~2,096 masl), for experienced trekkers.
  • Bring enough drinking water
  • Wear proper trekking shoes
  • Start in the morning (before 9am) to avoid the fog that usually rolls in by midday

Cycling

Take in the village atmosphere by cycling along winding roads, past hills, farms, and terraced rice fields.

Best time
Morning, around 6-9am, when the air is still cool and traffic is light.
Bike rental
Some accommodations, like Plaga Eco Village and Plaga Eco Park, offer cycling routes and bike rental for guests.
  • The terrain is hilly with fairly steep climbs in places — make sure you're up for it
  • For a more relaxed ride, choose a route with flatter terrain

Agrotourism

Pelaga and Belok/Sidan are one of Kabupaten Badung's highland farming hubs, with coffee, citrus, asparagus, and marigold farms around nearly every corner of the villages.

Walk or cycle through the farms
Take in views of coffee, citrus, and asparagus farms, and chat with farmers at work along the way.
Coffee & learning the process
Farm and roasting tours at Bali Beans Plantation and Kiadan Coffee Farm, from the field all the way to the cup.
Chase the marigold moment
Best from 7-9am or 3-5pm, when the soft light is perfect for capturing the orange flower fields.

Spiritual Tourism

Pura Puncak Mangu is the main spiritual tourism destination in this area. Sitting atop Mount Catur, it's one of the Kahyangan Jagat temples held sacred by Balinese Hindus, and it also holds traces of history from the Megalithic era in the form of an ancient stone lingga.

  • Non-Hindu visitors are still required to wear a sarong/sash, following proper temple dress etiquette
Tips & Tricks

Before You Go

  1. Pack warm clothing

The Belok/Sidan area sits at roughly 1,500 masl, so temperatures can get fairly cold, especially in the morning and at night.

  2. Make sure your vehicle is in good condition

Some roads to the destinations are winding and steep. Drive carefully, especially when it rains or fog rolls in.

  3. Ask permission before taking photos on private farmland

Farms and fields are part of residents' livelihoods. Always ask the landowner's permission before entering or taking photos.

  4. Time your visit right

Want to see the marigolds in bloom? Check the bloom season with the tourism village managers or relevant contacts before you visit.

  5. Wear comfortable footwear

Some destinations, especially waterfalls, involve trekking and descending many steps. Make sure your footwear is comfortable and non-slip.

  6. Mind your conduct at sacred sites

When visiting Pura Puncak Mangu or other sacred sites, dress modestly and follow local customs to help preserve the sanctity and calm of these places.

Getting Ready

What to Pack & Connectivity

Clothing

  • A warm jacket or sweater — Belok/Sidan sits at ~1,500 masl and gets fairly cold in the morning and at night
  • A modest sarong or sash for entering temple grounds
  • A change of clothes if you plan to get wet at a waterfall pool

Trekking Gear

  • Non-slip trekking shoes or sandals
  • A well-stocked water bottle
  • A power bank to keep your camera/phone going all day

Other Essentials

  • Enough cash on hand, as not every warung and café accepts QRIS payments
  • A camera or phone with a full battery for the flower fields and waterfalls

Signal & Wi-Fi

Major mobile carriers like Telkomsel, Tri, and XL Axiata already cover most of Pelaga and Belok/Sidan, supporting both calls and internet access. That said, a few hillside settlements still see occasional signal instability.

A number of cafés, places to stay, and public facilities offer Wi-Fi for visitors, including community halls (balai banjar) and some attractions.

There's no official carrier store in the area yet, but phone kiosks like Ayu S Cellular (Pelaga) and ABS Cellular (Belok/Sidan) sell SIM cards, top-ups, and data packages.
